FIONA HERNUSS

Fiona Hernuss (b. 1970, Vienna) is an Austrian painter who studied communication design at Parsons School of Design in Paris and New York before completing an MFA in classical painting at the New York Academy of Art. Working primarily in oil — and often with 24-karat gold leaf and palladium — she brings the precision of graphic design together with the depth and luminosity of Old Master technique, most recognisably in her stylized emus, painted frontally to meet the viewer eye to eye as emblems of resilience and transformation. She has exhibited across Europe and the United States, at fairs including Art Karlsruhe, Art Austria and Art Innsbruck, and in auctions at Sotheby's New York, the Albertina Museum and the Dorotheum; she is represented by galleries in Austria and Germany, and in Armenia by Artique.
